Day of the pen monument 2025

This year, we want to participate in the ‘Open Monument Day’ (13th + 14th September) again and offer a small historical, culinary and perhaps also cultural programme. The first entries can already be found in our programme calendar (-> Events).

The Schwalbenthal e.V. association is intensively engaged in historical research on Schwalbenthal, the preservation of cultural monuments, and cultural and educational offerings. Since this spring, we have been regularly opening the viewing terrace, collecting donations and welcoming interested visitors.

On Open Monument Day, we invite you to bring along old pictures of Schwalbenthal and important events or happenings there. We would then digitise these for our image archive.

Terrace opens

The terrace will be open at weekends and on public holidays throughout the summer. It will also be open for special events.

As the possibilities of use depend on the weather, please check here on a daily basis whether it is actually open!

Under the menu item Events you will always find the current openings as well as information on other events organised by the Schwalbenthal e.V. association.

All visitors are welcome to bring their favourite games and/or instruments to play here!

If you would like to organise (other) social or cultural events on the terrace or have any requests, please contact us!

If possible, we are happy to cater for requests regarding food offerings for people with intolerances. Please contact us.

14 Sept. Terrace open

As our pizza evening last Sunday unfortunately fell through (in the rain), we want to make up for it this coming Saturday (14 September) with a solidarity pizza day.

We will open the terrace and the snack station from 2 pm with coffee and cake and from late afternoon there will be fresh pizza from the clay oven!

Due to the spontaneous rescheduling, we are still looking for volunteers. Please get in touch if you would like to help us out.

The donations from this day go to the Schwalbenthal Association and benefit the preservation of the Schwalbenthal and our historical and social work.

Impressions: Day of the open memorial 2024

The terrace and house are open for Open Monument Day. Many visitors are waiting to be admitted to a guided tour of the former restaurant.

The terrace was already busy.

In the former dining room there is a small exhibition on the history of the house and the village… and there were also plenty of questions about the current situation.

The visitors listen eagerly to Thomas’ historical introduction.

Particularly popular at the ‘snack station’ on the terrace: coffee and cake.

The clay oven is heated up and prepared for delicious fresh manakish (Syrian speciality).

Good mood among the visitors

A visit from the Schülbe family. The old pub was built and run by their ancestors for generations.

The volunteers also need a break from time to time 🙂

Security measures on the house

The damage mapping revealed that safety measures were necessary to secure the damage to the old timber frame until the house could be completely renovated after the slope stabilisation had been completed by Hessen mobil. As Hessen mobil is still waiting for a solution for the wall behind the house, these rather cost-intensive measures had to be tackled immediately. They were finally completed at the end of July. The façade will now be made weatherproof again for the coming years.

In future, information about the project and its current status will be displayed on the wooden boards. Many a curious nose that likes to sneak around the house, especially now in summer, can find out more here 🙂
